Presented in partnership with Opera Carolina Academy: Community School of the Arts is pleased to partner with Opera Carolina Academy to present this new workshop providing instruction in various facets of Music-Drama disciplines and vocal instruction. Music-Drama curriculum will include basic instruction in stage combat, general stagecraft, theater exercises and games, musical interpretation and orchestral improv, movement and elementary group dance, in addition to scenes and/skit work. Vocal technique curriculum will include basic instruction in proper breathing, laryngeal positioning and relaxation, practice exercises and tactics, introduction to IPA and diction, song interpretation, and care of the voice. All vocal study is geared to the healthy production of acoustic solo singing. In addition to regular class instruction, students may also qualify to participate in master classes with internationally recognized opera artists. Workshop auditions will be held on Sunday, March 7, 2010 and will be adjudicated by Opera Carolina Academy artistic staff. (Following auditions, students will be notified of their acceptance and will then register and pay for the workshop.) Discovering Suzuki: Beginning and Pre-Twinkle Students is open to currently enrolled
Pre-Twinkle students and to children with no prior violin experience. Pre-Twinkle students will attend classes designed to expand their fundamental skills, while newcomers will enjoy a fun introduction to the world of violin playing. Additional activities include music and movement lessons, listening games, and arts and crafts. Come discover the joy of making music as a community! Inherent in the Suzuki philosophy is active parent participation designed to help the musical
development of the child as well as build a family bond. In this spirit, parents are invited to attend camp all morning with their child or join us for lunch and sharing time at the conclusion of each camp day. Music All Around Us: Students in Book 1 and Above brings students with at least one year of Suzuki violin study to an energizing camp designed to build fundamental musical skills, increase motivation, and provide unique musical opportunities. This intensive Suzuki experience offers a rare chance to study with many highly qualified instructors and play with young violinists from across Charlotte, creating a unique community of musicians. Classes include Suzuki repertoire, fiddling, theory, music and movement, and chamber music classes for advanced students. The camp concludes with a Friday afternoon celebratory performance for family and friends. Celebrating its ninth year, Charlotte’s premier summer music camp offers outstanding instruction from guest conductor Thomas LaJoie and returning guest conductor Dr. Stanley Michalski, Jr., combined with the unique opportunity to learn from and perform with Charlotte Symphony musicians and respected music educators from CMS and area private schools. Merit Awards of $50.00 toward camp tuition will be given to students who are members of
the Charlotte Symphony Youth Orchestra, Charlotte Symphony Junior Youth Orchestra, Western Regional Orchestra, All-State Band, All-District Band, Honors Orchestra, and All-County Band and Orchestra. Solo Competition Scholarships
Based on auditions, two students will receive full tuition scholarships to camp, gift certificates,
personal coaching from a faculty member and solo performance opportunities at the final camp concert on July 16th. Join Community School of the Arts for summer adventures at the Preschool Arts Camps!
With stories, crafts, music and movement --- all woven into a literacy-focused program --- this camp will inspire young artists and nurture their creativity. Each week immerses students in a different theme, and students are welcome to register for one, two or all three camp weeks. Snacks and a t-shirt are provided. Jazz Camp generously sponsored by Piedmont Natural Gas. Community School of the Arts is proud to offer its second annual summer camp exclusively
for the study of jazz. Open to middle and high school band students, this camp is a fun and educational opportunity to study jazz, America’s classical music. Each day, students will perform in big band and small combos while learning music theory, history and the appreciation of jazz, all while studying with some of Charlotte’s top jazz educators. In a professional studio setting, students learn hand building, wheel and other techniques
to create brightly colored, personalized pottery. Using state of the art equipment, students will learn from experienced teaching artists and take completed work home at the end of camp.
