Community School of the Arts offers traditional music instruction for kids & adults on the following instruments:

We take great care in placing students with the most appropriate faculty member to foster musical interest and talent development.  Private music study is available for children and adults. Adult students are placed with faculty members specializing in adult instruction.

FEES:
1/2 hour lesson= $23 per lesson
45 minute lesson= $34.50 per lesson
1 hour lesson= $46 per lesson

*Harp instruction begins at $45 per 45-minute lesson for beginners, different rates apply for intermediate or advanced students

SUZUKI STRINGS - VIOLIN & CELL0 (AGE 3.5+)

Community School of the Arts offers Suzuki instruction based on the repertoire and teaching philosophy of Dr. Shinichi Suzuki. Lessons are taught by professionally certified instructors. Parents/caregivers are required to attend lessons, as they will serve as home teachers.

FEES:
Half hour lesson = $25 per lesson
45 minute lesson = $37.50 per lesson
1 hour lesson = $50 per lesson

ROCK AND BLUES INSTRUCTION

Community School of the Arts offers private music lessons in rock and blues styles on the following instruments:

Students of all abilities are welcome: Whether you want to reconnect with your long-deferred dream of playing the guitar or mold your child’s percussive tendencies into harmonious drumming, CSA’s experienced faculty can bring the joy of music to you and your family. It’s never too late --- or too early -to develop a lifelong passion for rock and blues. Lesson prices and schedules are the same as those listed under “Private Music Instruction.”


Group Suzuki Classes

When: Mondays; Feb. 4, March 3, March 31, May 5 and June 2, 2008; 6 to 7 p.m.

Where: Myers Park Baptist Church, 1900 Queens Road.


Voice Ensemble for Children (Ages 7 to 12)

Children ages 7 to 12 can learn the basics of music-making in Voice Ensemble for Children. Activities will include breathing exercises, solfége and rhythm games, learning about stage presence and singing fun songs.

Fee: $60 (six weekly classes)

When: Six-week session
Thursdays, 6 to 6:45 p.m.

• Session 2: March 6 through April 17, 2008 - No class April 10, 2008.
• Session 3: April 24 through May 29, 2008.

Saxophone Ensemble

An all-sax ensemble directed by James Curry. Intermediate-level students welcome.

Fees: $135/$85**
**Students enrolled in private saxophone lessons are eligible to receive a $50 tuition discount. The name of the private teacher must be supplied on the registration form to receive this discount.

Class is free to students enrolled in private music lessons at the CSA.

Junior Flute Choir (Ages 10 to 18)

Sponsored by Carolinas Concert Association. Open to middle- and high-school students placed by audition. Please call 704-887-0291 for audition information.

String Ensemble
(Ages 8 to 10)

Designed for fourth- and fifth-grade students who have completed a minimum of one year of violin studies. This string ensemble offers violin instruction and prepares students for participation in middle school orchestra classes. Students must secure instrument rental.

Fee: $135

When: 12-week session
Thursdays, 4 to 5 p.m.
Feb. 7 through May 1, 2008. No class April 10, 2008.

Early Arts for Children

Music Readiness Class for Children (Ages 3 to 5)
Jump-start your child’s music education. This 12-week class is the first step to private violin or piano lessons for your young child. Classes will include rhythm training, pitch awareness, music vocabulary, note recognition, basic violin posture and positioning, and training for parents on at-home practice and motivation. No instrument necessary.

Parents/caregivers should plan on attending classes with students.

Fee: $135.

Beginner Suzuki Violin Class (Ages 4 to 6)

A group approach to beginning Suzuki violin for the young student. Designed to build upon the basics learned in Music Readiness class, students will move into the standard Suzuki method. Students must secure materials and instrument rental. Parents/caregivers should plan on attending classes with students.

Fee: $195

When: 18-week session
Fridays, 5:30 to 6:15 p.m., Jan. 25 through May 30, 2008.
No class April 11, 2008.

Music Together

A music and movement approach to early childhood development for infants, toddlers, preschoolers and their parents or caregivers.
