Visual Arts Classes

 

Art Exploration for Kids  (Ages 3 to 6)

In this creative course for young children, students will experiment with drawing, painting, collage, sculpture and mixed media. Students will learn how to combine basic elements such as shape, color, line, and pattern to create interesting, effective compositions.

 

Fee: $105, including materials

 

Where: Plaza Satellite studios OR the 521 Recreation Center in Ballantyne.

 

When: Six weekly classes, each one hour long

Fundamentals of Drawing  (Ages 7 to 10)

In this fun introductory course, students will explore the elements and principles of art through a variety of drawing materials. Students will be introduced to ways of showing space, texture, form and proportion.

 

Fee: $105, including materials

 

Where: Either the 521 Rec Center in Ballantyne or the Plaza Satellite Studios in Plaza Midwood.

 

When: Six weekly classes, each one hour long

Pottery Classes

 

Kids’ Pottery Class  (Ages 5 to 9)

This six-week class will introduce students to the wonderful potential of clay.  Participants will create whimsical, fun, brightly-colored pieces of art.  Each class session will introduce a new technique of creating and finishing objects in clay.  Class tuition includes all materials and firing.

 

Fee: $105, materials included.

 

Where: Clayworks Studio, 301 E. Ninth St., Uptown Charlotte

 

When: Six weekly classes.

 

Session 1:
Saturdays, February 14 through March 21, 2009; 9 to 10:30 a.m.

 

Session 2:
Saturdays, March 28 through May 9, 2009; (No class April 11); 9 to 10:30 a.m.

Middle School Pottery Class  (Ages 10 to 12)

This more advanced six-week class also invites participants to create whimsical, fun, brightly-colored pieces of art.  Each class session will introduce a new technique of creating and finishing objects in clay.  Middle school students will learn more advanced handbuilding techniques and will gain experience on the wheel.  Class tuition includes all materials and firing.
