Registration Policies

Registration Fees -- revised July 2016
In addition to tuition, the School assesses a $25 per student, per session registration fee.  If you pay for a full year of private lessons or Charlotte Children's Choir programs upfront, the registration fee will be a one-time $35 payment for the fall and spring semesters.  This allows you to secure your spot for the entire year.  No registration fee will be collected for the third (or more) students per family.  For existing private lesson students, the registration fee will be waived for the summer semester.  This registration fee is non-refundable.

Late Fees
There is a $25 late fee added to the invoice for any payments past due.  Payments are considered past due once lessons or classes have begun.

Financial Aid
Community School of the Arts provides need-based financial assistance to students based on the availability of funds.  The financial aid application deadline for 2018 summer/fall and 2019 spring semester is April 16, 2018. The School makes its financial aid awards based on availability of funds and on a sliding scale similar to the one public schools use to determine eligibility for free/reduced school lunches.

Payment Policy
Tuition is due at the time of registration. Full payment may be made by check, money order or credit card.  We accept Visa, MasterCard and American Express, with all payments running through a secure server.

For private music lessons, the School offers an automated credit card payment plan for balances of more than $200.00.  This payment plan requires an initial deposit of 50% at the time of registration, with three additional equal installments scheduled to charge a credit card automatically on September 15th, October 15th, and November 15th for the fall semester, and February 15th, March 15th, and April 15th for the spring semester.  The installment plan is available only to credit card users.

Missed Lessons
Once enrolled, students are expected to attend all lessons. The School has a no make-up policy:
If a student misses a lesson or class, Community School of the Arts will not issue a refund, and instructors are not required to teach make-up sessions.
If a class or lesson is cancelled due to teacher illness or teacher emergency, the teacher will schedule a make-up lesson at no additional cost to the student.

For private lessons: A partial refund is available for private lessons if the student withdraws before the third lesson.  The School is unable to issue refunds after the third lesson.

For group classes and summer camps: Refunds are available only if students request the refund one week before the start of the first class or first day of camp. Once a group class or camp has begun, CSA will not issue refunds .

Inclement Weather
Community School of the Arts generally follows the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools closing policy for inclement weather, however exceptions do occur based on our community partner locations and weather conditions in the evening, when most of our programs take place.  In the event of bad weather or a CMS closing, parents should always check for closing information on CSA’s website at, CSA’s Facebook page at, or CSA’s main phone line, at 704.377.4187.  Any information on CSA closings will be posted there by 11:00AM.
Lessons or classes canceled due to weather will be made up at a later date at no additional cost.  The School staff and faculty absolutely do not want you to venture outside in unsafe driving conditions, so please be cautious in your judgment and talk to your teacher if you don’t feel safe attending your scheduled CSA program.  Our students and parents are precious to us, and we want you to be safe!
