How do I join Carolina Suzuki Strings?

There are 3 different ways for you to join Carolina Suzuki Strings! Learn more about each pathway:

Discovering Strings Summer Camp:
Our Discovering Strings+Art Camp (PreK-2 students) is a great way to introduce your elementary student to all that music and visual art have to offer at Arts+. With a focus on playing violin or cello, students will lay the foundation to play an instrument — it’s amazing what skills they can learn in just a week! Taught by our Carolina Suzuki Strings faculty, this camp uses the Suzuki Method as the camp’s foundation. All are welcome, and there's no experience necessary to join in the fun! Many of our Discovering Strings Campers choose to continue with private lessons following their camp.

    Discovering Strings Classes (ages 3-7):
    Covering similar material to our Discovering Strings Camp, our 6-week Discovering Strings Class is the perfect class for young students and provides a fun introduction to the violin and cello. Taught by our Carolina Suzuki Strings faculty, caregivers learn alongside their children at this class which is offered at the beginning of the fall (September) and spring (January) semesters.

      Weekly Private Lessons:
      Jump into one-on-one private lessons at any time during the year! We offer rolling admissions to all new Carolina Suzuki Strings students. Once you fill out the New Suzuki Student Form, you will be contacted by our Student Services Coordinator to place your student with one of our amazing Carolina Suzuki Strings faculty. Students are placed based on your available days/times, our instructor availability, lesson location, as well as personality fit.

      What opportunities will I have as a member of Carolina Suzuki Strings?

      Membership in Carolina Suzuki Strings includes weekly private lessons plus:

      • Group lessons
      • Ensemble opportunities

      • Suzuki recitals twice a year, with an accompanist provided

      • Workshops and special events

      • Outreach performances and community service

      How does it work?

      1. Parents or a caregiver join to watch and learn in their child’s private lesson each week.
      2. Our students grow and motivate their peers in our group experiences, such as weekly group classes and chamber ensembles. These group lessons are an important part of student learning and growth as students review music concepts, learn to work and play together as an ensemble, develop leadership skills and have a ton of fun making music!
      3. Students showcase their talents at recitals, workshops, special events and outreach opportunities held throughout the year.
        About Carolina Suzuki Strings

        Arts+ is proud to have the largest Suzuki program in the Charlotte region, with students from ages 3-18. We feature Suzuki instruction on violin, viola, cello, and harp. We are an active group of families and young musicians with opportunities to learn and play all year long. All our instructors are registered with the Suzuki Association of the Americas.


        What is the Suzuki Method?

        The Suzuki approach believes that children as young as three can learn to play a musical instrument in the same way they learn to speak — through listening, positive encouragement, and parental and community involvement. The Suzuki movement has spread all over the world, inspired by visionary Japanese violinist Shinichi Suzuki. The parent, child, and teacher work together to create an engaging and collaborative learning experience. Add in opportunities to learn and play regularly with their peers and our Suzuki students become successful individual performers as well as ensemble players.

        Parents do not have to have a musical background, as Suzuki teachers make sure to equip caregivers with everything they need to know to help their child succeed.

        The Suzuki method is more than just learning an instrument — it’s making music as a community!
